Event Details:

This introductory training explores how somatic awareness and nervous system regulation can enhance Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with couples. Participants will learn to recognize how attachment needs, trauma responses, and autonomic nervous system states shape relationship dynamics and contribute to common patterns of conflict and disconnection.

Through case examples, experiential exercises, and practical interventions, clinicians will gain foundational tools for helping couples move from reactivity toward greater emotional safety, co-regulation, and secure connection. This workshop is designed to provide an accessible introduction to integrating somatic principles within an EFT framework.

This training is great for:

This training is ideal for therapists who work with couples and are interested in integrating nervous system awareness into attachment-focused treatment. It is particularly well suited for:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapists (EFT) seeking to deepen their ability to work with dysregulation, trauma responses, and embodied emotional experience in couples sessions.
  • Somatic Experiencing Practitioners (SEP) and other somatically trained clinicians who want to incorporate attachment-based interventions into their couples work.
  • Therapists working with high-conflict or high-distress couples where nervous system activation, shutdown, pursuer-withdrawer dynamics, or trauma responses interfere with connection.
  • Clinicians supporting couples impacted by complex trauma, attachment injuries, infidelity, grief, chronic stress, medical trauma, or life transitions.
  • Marriage and Family Therapists, Social Workers, Professional Counselors, and Psychologists who want practical tools to help couples move from reactivity and protection into greater safety, vulnerability, and connection.
  • Therapists who often find themselves asking, "What do I do when a partner becomes overwhelmed, shuts down, dissociates, or escalates?" and want concrete somatic interventions that complement the EFT model.

Participants will learn how to track nervous system states within the EFT cycle, identify opportunities for co-regulation, and use somatic interventions to support deeper emotional engagement, secure attachment, and lasting relational change.

This training is appropriate for both newer EFT clinicians and experienced practitioners looking to expand their clinical toolbox through an embodied lens. No prior EFT training is required to attend this workshop.
